La Palma is known as La Isla Bonita because of it’s incredible landscapes, imposing volcanoes, deep forests, welcoming beaches and star-filled night skies.
I took this picture at the Roque de los Muchachos, a rocky mound at the highest point on the island. The rocks are found at an elevation of 2,423 m above sea level, not far from the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, where some of the world’s largest telescopes are situated; the altitude and the dryness of the climate here give rise to excellent observing conditions. That evening it was very windy with temperatures at 0 degrees. To my misfortune I had let the gloves in the car. No matter! The result counts!
