Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is of the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge, It is a suspended bridge connects the lower and upper pennisula's of Michigan. My boyfriend at the time( finance now) took me for a day trip to the u.p to see the Tahquamenon Falls, we were only able to see the upper falls, but I had never been there and had my camera so I was in photographer heaven, I took this photo of the bridge on our night drive back. Everytime I cross the Mackinaw Bridge I get a flood of childhood memories for 13 years me my family and all our close friends would do the infamous bridge walk. Great times with great people. This night was romantic and gave me a brand new memory to look back on.

Time

It was around 12:30 at night. On our way back home to Waters Mi.

Lighting

The lighting in this photo was all about timing. With opposite traffic approaching, it was difficult to not catch flare backs from the headlights but it turned out enchanting just as I had pictures it with my own eyes.

Equipment

For this photo I used my smart phone, I have a Motorola turbo. With a 21 mp camera. my old baby ( Nikon d40 ) the one and only camera I have had for almost 7 years has a very low shutter life left. So it only allows me great pictures once in a while. And being a mom of two with a mortgage and all of the adult life i have to deal while we save money for my new camera.

Inspiration

I had a very adventurous day, it was full of lust and romance beautiful waterfalls, and a enchanting dinner. And being a photographer I wanted to document my travels and the emotion of the trip.

Editing

I don't use much post processing, I like my photos raw, with this one I used a simple black and white filter and tweaked the lighting and contrast to my heart's desire.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Nikon d40 with the standard 55mm lens and a 300mm tele lense. I always have lens cleaner, qtips and zip lock bags in my carry bag, for impending weather. And because my camera is so old it really dislikes the cold weather of winter so I sewed my camera body and both lenses sweaters lol. Michigan is one of those states that has beautiful but sometimes minute changing weather.

Feedback

Timing was key for lighting while taking this photo. It was around 12:30am so other than the on coming traffic and what little light the bridge itself has to offee. Patience, but not too much. The bridge is only 6 miles long so just keep shooting.
