Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken from the back yard of our home in Maryland. All of the photos I've posted are taken from somewhere in the state and most from the area directly behind the house.Time
This was taken at sunrise. In fact all the photos I've posted of this nature are sunrise. With the way the house is set up, looking directly East, I can just walk out the back door, set up my gear and click away.Lighting
With sunrise, just like sunsets, it's all about being there at the right time and waiting until either everything falls in place or the sun gets to high or goes down completely. On this day, it first looked like I should go back to bed. It was almost a complete overcast when I woke up. Luckily things started to break just before sunrise.Equipment
For this shot I was using a Canon T5 with the Bower 8mm F3.5 fisheye lens. I shot it wide open with the manual focus set to infinity. I was using a tripod and remote release also.Inspiration
I've always been a morning person. When I was working, I would almost always be up before dawn and leave the house early enough to see the sunrise. Seeing beautiful colors like that can't help but put a smile on your face and start the day off right. Even now that I'm retired, I still am awake before dawn and waiting to see what beauty the day holds in store.Editing
This was taken before I learned the value of post-processing. But, if I did touch this, I'd probably hurt it more than help. This is one of the few times that straight out of the camera was better than one processed. In my camera bag
Besides the Canon T5, I have a Canon 70D. As far as lens go I have a few that I use a lot. Tamron 150-600, Tamron 70-300, Tamron 18-200, Canon 24-105L and Canon 10-18. I also use the Tokina 100mm macro lens. Currently have an old tripod that I'm hoping to upgrade soon. When I first started I got a bit carried away with gear. Now I'm more focused on improving my skills as opposed to acquiring more gear.Feedback
I only started taking photos about 18 months ago. I enjoy it a lot and take photos almost every day. If I'm not shooting, I'm doing something related. I read a lot of tutorials. I look at the works of others. I listen when someone who is much better than I am gives me advice. And I spend a lot of time here on Viewbug learning and also helping others. The "likes" and "awards" here helped me continue to try to get better. For sunrise photos if you get up in time you have a decent chance to catch the "show". Just wait it out and even when it looks like a wrap, hang in a bit longer.
