Stunning. I love how this image fills the frame and "pops" with color. Well done.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo is taken in my garden in Lyngby, just north of Copenhagen, Denmark (after a period of rainy weather, that never seemed to end). It is one of my first photos of flowers and I liked the way the water drops rested on the leafs and the really deep tone and color of the flowers themselves. As I were very new at photography at the time this photo is chosen among a selection of more than 50 photos taken of these flowers where I must admit this is the very best.

Time

The photo is taken around 5 o´clock in the afternoon, 10 minutes after the cold rain finally ended and before the evening set in.

Lighting

I Wanted the light which comes right after the rain and is a mixture of clear light and dark skies which helps bring out the combination of the deep color of the flower against the green and dark leafs below.

Equipment

Photo taken with a Nikon D5500 and a 18-55mm lens on a tripod (in order to get real close to the flowers and at the same time keep everything steady).

Inspiration

I wanted to take a photo of the flowers just after the rain and thus get the raindrops on the leafs as a supplement to the color and shapes of the flowers.

Editing

no post-processing made.

In my camera bag

In my bag I carry the Nikon D5500 with a standard 18-55mm lens (AF P NIKKOR DX VR) and a 55-300mm zoom lens (AF-S NIKKOR DX) and HOYA CIR-PL filter.

Feedback

Be ready to take photos at all hours in the day, in the evening and early in the morning (in short: at all times!). As the right light, the right scene and the right atmosphere will change and may disappear, but not if you are there to capture the moment for all of us to see and enjoy. For sure use tripods to secure steady and sharp photos when trying to capture 'moving' objects as flowers. I took the first images hand-held and after some reflection regarding method decided to use the tripod. Looking through the photos afterwards I thanked myself for the decision as almost all the hand-held photos were out of focus and lacked sharpness. In short I would not have had this capture without the tripod.
