Location
I took this photo in my yard along a tree line. Northeast, PATime
Photo was taken about 3:15 pm. I like to wait until the sun goes down a little bit to get better lighting. When the sun is lower and behind me, I can get better natural colors. Wildlife is more active in this area in early morning or late afternoon also.Lighting
I like to get photos early in the morning or later in the day. The lighting is so much better. I placed these peanuts on a rock where the darker backdrop of the woods would make the chipmunk stand out better with a darker bokeh. I lay down on the ground to get on their level and get a straight on shot.Equipment
Canon 7D Mark ll - Sigma 50-500mm lens. No flash or tripod was used.Inspiration
I love to photograph wildlife and nature. Chipmunks are one of my favorites. They are very comical and the faces they make can be pretty cute. I try to capture them in different areas, poses, expressions and antics.Editing
I do very little to my photographs and have a basic editor. I cropped it a little, added just a touch of highlights and just a little sharpness. My photos are basically the way they are right out of the camera. In my camera bag
Canon 70-300mm lens, Sigma 50-500mm lens, Sigma 18-250 lens, Canon Macro Lens.Feedback
For chipmunks, they can get very friendly and you can get fairly close to them. If I see them being active, I put out some food for them and then wait. I lay on the ground to get on their level so I am not shooting down at them. By getting on their level, you can capture their facial expressions so much better. I always shoot with the sun to my back and try not to be in a real bright spot.
