Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken along the shoreline of a beach in Lahaina, Maui. I'm a self taught photographer and this was my first time trying out long exposure on my camera.

Time

It was around 5am just before the sun was starting to come up behind the mountain (Haleakala)

Lighting

I really wanted to experiment with the long exposure and capture the breaking of dawn.

Equipment

I used my canonT5 with a 50mm lens, at f1.8, iso 1600 attached to a tripod.

Inspiration

I noticed there a was a spot on the beach that was completely dark, and thought it would be perfect to try out the long exposure.

Editing

I didn't do any post processing on this photo.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon 5d mark II and my Canon T5 for back up. A 50mm and a 70-200mm.

Feedback

I would suggest getting a wide angle lens, particularly made for astrophotography and landscape and be a in a really secluded area where there are no city lights. And, if you are trying it out for the first time have fun and experiment by bracketing your shots and playing around with the aperture, iso, and shutter speed.
