Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot at Beaver Park in Lafayette, LA.

Time

It was about 3PM.

Lighting

There are many trees in that area. I much prefer natural lighting to flash or any artificial lighting.

Equipment

I was shooting at the time a Nikon D5100 with a 55-200mm lens.

Inspiration

Ms. Bella is an English Springer Spaniel belonging to my friend, John Abbott. He whistle trains Ms. Bella and Gumbo, his other Springer. He uses dummies to train them to retrieve. They are both so majestic when running. Bella was in the lake and but when John blew the whistle for her to come out of the water, she came running across the park and John blew the whistle for her to stop, she immediately sat. I dropped down and shot the picture.

Editing

I do some post processing, but very little.

In my camera bag

I carry 2 extra batteries, my 55-300 lens and extra memory cards. Depending on what time of the day I go out, I may bring my external flash.

Feedback

My passion in shooting is babies. I love puppies, kittens, turtles, alligators, egrets, and children. The former president of the Professional Photographers of Louisiana called one day and asked, "How do you get those pictures of your dogs? I worked for hours to get a few good shots!" My philosophy is - turn 'um loose and let them roam. But you need to anticipate their next move and be ready at that moment when it happens. Let them do the work and you shoot the shot!
