Location
Right in the backyard where I used to live, these visitors came by quite often during Spring and Summer, likely because we have enough 'snacks' around.Time
It was early evening at sunset, when I saw this fellow I quickly grabbed my gear and hopped out, glad that there was enough 'food' to keep this guy around long enough for the shot.Lighting
At that time of day while sun just set and in the shadow, especially with wildlife that potentially move any second and to avoid disturbing flashlight, the auto-ISO and VR features on camera and lens played big roles in obtaining this shot.Equipment
With the Nikon D7100 and Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6E VR lens, this handheld shot was taken at 1/200th of a second with the help of the camera and lens features like auto-ISO and VR.Inspiration
Wildlife photography has always been one of my favourites, though I have very limited time and no high-end equipment for it. The lack of food for the wildlifes drives them closer to the human neighbourhood, giving me opportunity for the photographs without extensive commuting. I like photographing wildlifes as they are residents on the planet along with us, that we shall explore, have better understanding and appreciate them.Editing
While the scene wasn't well luminated and hence a bit desaturated, minor adjustments on contrast, brightness were done, otherwise nothing else in post-editing to keep this image as natural and original as possible. In my camera bag
My Nikon D600, lens/camera cleaning items, extra batteries, lens will depend on what I will be photographing: Wildlifes - Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6E VR, landscape - Nikkor 16-35mm F4 VR along with various ND filters and tripod, Nikkor 105mm F2.8 VR, flashlight, remote triggers for macro and at times portraitry. Outside of the bag, I always have my tripod, flashlight stand, reflector, and a foldable seat in my trunk.Feedback
I always appreciate the wisdom within the wildlifes, from their natural habitats to interesting moves or action, and we tend to imply our imaginations when we look at wildlife images. It's like sports photography, burst mode is very helpful obtaining a series of photos in order to pick the best, but also at times capturing those unexpected ones. Also research and learn about the subject's natural habitat, that goes a long way allowing one to get closer obtaining the ideal shot.
