St. John's (Stone) Church was completed in 1825 as a mission of Trinity Church, the city's first Anglican church. The tower was built the following year but plans for erection of a spire were abandoned. St John's was among the first stone structures in Saint John. It is the oldest original church in the city centre having survived the Great Fire of 1877.
