Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during an outdoor shoot on a bright shiny day. I really liked the highlights the sun created but wanted to show them more dramatically than color would have shown.

Time

It was mid morning.

Lighting

Nothing special on this one.

Equipment

Nikon D4. I think I had my 28-200 zoom on at the time.

Inspiration

This was one of a combination of passed and action shots of this Morgan mare. I was looking for a pose of her elegant head.

Editing

Post processing was definitely what created the finished piece. I used Nik software primarily to convert to black and white and then between burn and dodge created the finished piece.

In my camera bag

Nikon D4 is my go to. I really like prime lenses so have a 50, 90 and then 300mm in prime and a 28-200 zoom.

Feedback

Play with your postprocessing. It's fun and sometimes you get something that really stands out from what was initially a relatively mundane initial picture.
