This morning as I let the dogs out I heard a Pileated woodpecker call from the trees across the drive. I get lots of other woodpeckers to my feeder but the pileateds don't come they hang out at Jim and Laurie's house. Anyways I grabbed my camera and opened the door and - of course - the bird flew off to another tree. I didn't really have the right lens on so I decided to walk down to the car,change lenses and see if the bird had hung around - just as i got the mega lens on I heard a flapping right across from me and the first birds mate had arrived to linger on the dead tree. This is one of the shots - after that I followed them both down the drive but altho I got more shots it was from a distance .
