Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Sri Lanka in a place called Polonnaruwa?. It shows the top of the buddhist temple Kiri Vehera.

Time

This was taken shortly after midday. It was the middle of June, one fo the hottest months of the year. Off-season travel time for that part of the world. I remember battling through the oppressive humidity in shorts and a t-shirt. It's surprisingly difficult to even walk around in that sort of weather. But I am glad I did, I had an amazing time and got to take one of my favourite photos.

Lighting

This was a natural light photo, however I have played around with the colours which does give it a odd 'out of this world' feel, which

Equipment

This was shot on an Olympus E-M5MarkII using 12-40mm F2.8 Pro lens at f/9. Hand-held with no flash.

Inspiration

I had met a fellow traveller earlier in my trip around Sri Lanka. He had already passed through this area and had shown me a few of his photos. His one of the very same temple inspired me to see if I could take one similar to his.

Editing

I did a bit of playing around with the colours, I got this result by passing it through a few different filters in the stock standard Photos application on my iPhone.

In my camera bag

I try to travel light when it comes to my camera bag. I use a micro 4/3rds camera and only bring along with me one or two lenses, usually my 12-40mm and my 9-18mm. Occasionally I will take along my trip-pod and some ND filters, but I do like to keep things to a minimum so as to force me to be a little more creative with what I have.

Feedback

I would just be wary of the weather and dress appropriately and ensure you take a lot of water! Travelling in the height of summer in countries which are humid and hot, comes with a surprising amount of health hazards.
