Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in Sudbury, MA at a historical site associated with the famous Wayside Inn. The inn was the location that Longfellow visited while doing some of his writing. The old mill is up the road and a church and country store also are included in this historical location.

Time

The image was taken on a hot afternoon with glaring sun.

Lighting

The lighting was not ideal because of hot sun. I had to use a neutral density filter to get to a shutter speed that I wanted.

Equipment

I used a Sony Ax65 camera with a Tamron 28-200 mm zoom lens, remote control for the shutter and of course a tripod. Shutter speed was about 1/3 of a second and the aperture was f22. I had a ND filter on the lens.

Inspiration

It is a scenic area with flowing water. The 7 hills camera club planned a field trip to the site to take soft water images.

Editing

I did use Photoshop to bring out some of the shadows and to crop the image.

In my camera bag

Camera, lenses, extra batteries and SD cards, lens cleaning materials, remote control for long shutter situations like this.

Feedback

Shoot a lot of different exposures and try for a lower light level so you can control the shutter to get the soft water if that is desired.
