Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of a motorcycle officer in Surprise, Arizona on one of the main streets through the city. Surprise Police Department was providing escort for the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Arizona.

Time

Took this photo around 10 am it was a very sunny and warm day here in Arizona.

Lighting

Shot this in daylight no flash, not a fan of using a flash I am kind of a purest when it comes to photography and working with the light I have or don't have.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D7000 with my 70-300mm lens, not my favorite lens only break it out when I need to get close but can't get close enough to get the shot.

Inspiration

I love street photography and photojournalism, so this was kind of a natural photo to take I acutely change my plans for the day after I found out this run was going on. This picture was just a quick snap before the Torch run got to my location I like the officers face he was staring down a car that almost went through the intersection as they were closing the street down, I had to move after this shot since the officer parked right in front of me.

Editing

I did do some post-processing this photo was cropped a bit to get rid of some background distractions. I love black and white most of the times the only levers I mess with big time highlights and contrast along with adding a little clarity. Even when I process in color, I don't mess with the vibrancy or saturations if anything I will decrease those two just like the way it looks almost vintage.

In my camera bag

I shoot now mostly with a 35mm prime lens along with the 18-55 mm kit lens, hardly use since I got the 35mm and a 70-300mm too just in case I come across "news" worthy stuff where I can't get in close enough with a 35mm. I keep a notebook, few extra filters, my remote trigger/timer, and some other stuff that came with the camera I hardly ever use and need to clean out my bag.

Feedback

I always shoot in raw, and when I am out on the street, I set my ISO to auto and will start out with my shutter speed at 1/400 sec, and at f-8. I will adjust from there I will also tend to underexpose by a stop or two and adjust in Lightroom later works out most of the time not always, I try not to overthink the technical stuff.
