Behind The Lens

Location

From the board walk on boulevard park in Bellingham, Wa. Overlooking Bellingham Bay

Time

This was taken approaching sunset, I believe around 8PM

Lighting

Mother nature provided the lighting :-)

Equipment

Nikon D7000 with Nikon 35-80mm zoom lens and an old vanguard tripod.

Inspiration

I was just out to take some sunset pictures and noticed the man in the kayak, so I decided to try to get a silhouette of him with the horizon. I was happy with the way it turned out.

Editing

No post processing, I rarely do any post processing on any of my shots. I feel it's probably due to my history of learning using film and not wanting to waste shots, so I got in habit of framing my shots the way I see the final shot in my head. I still shoot film a lot, and I shoot digital with the same mindset.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Nikon D7000 with a 35-80mm lens, and my Nikon FE with a fixed 50mm 1.8 lens. I also usually try to have a variety of film, mostly b&w. I usually shoot freehand, but carry a tripod for night shooting.

Feedback

Just try to keep your eyes open and not fixate on anything so you will notice other things that you can possibly use in your shot. If I were focused just on the sunset I may have missed the kayak until the timing was wrong.
