Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was one of my first sessions done this year when I decided to start my business. We went to a park in Hinesville, GA near my home at Fort Stewart, GA. The beautiful scenery which includes a barn and a pond is what I love of the place.

Time

I remember this family being so excited for their session that they agreed to meet at 8:30am on a Saturday. Believe me this was a great challenge for them as they have four children and two of them are under 3 years old so that means getting everyone up super early to eat breakfast and get dressed.

Lighting

As this was one of my first portfolio building sessions I was starting to experiment and learn with using light. Thankfully, the area was nicely shaded so that the strong sunlight wasn't overwhelming. This was taken near the end of the session at around 10:00am.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon Rebel T5 with a 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I was doing a family and maternity session for this family and I asked their oldest if she wanted a fun picture by herself since she had told me she used to do gymnastics. So we went to the tree and I helped her hang upside down. I was glad to capture her spontaneity.

Editing

At the time I was still post-processing only on Photoshop and wasn't doing really good taking out shadows but I did post-process the image and was happy with it. If I decided to post-process now I would use Lightroom and eliminate more shadows.

In my camera bag

My bag right now has my 18-55mm lens and ny lovely 50mm. I absolutely love my 50mm! I also have 1 additional SD card and my Yongnuo IV flashlight. Pretty soon I'm looking to add some more lenses.

Feedback

Be open to kids suggestions! Children have a fun and unique outlook that with some creative positioning from the photographer might end up being a pretty amazing and fun shot.
