I took this photo in Humboldt County, California up in the Redwoods National and State Parks area.Time
If I remember correctly it was actually pretty early afternoon. Which was a trip because the lighting was epic.Lighting
Lighting is everything. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't create a good photograph in the middle of the day. Anything is possible.Equipment
Haha oh god, I used a Nikon D200. About ten or so years old. And I believe I shot that with my 18-200 Nikkor lens. And that is it really for equipment, no tripod or long exposure. IInspiration
It was Christmas Day and I was all alone. This isn't going to be a sob story but I decided to go for a drive up this road because I wanted a white Christmas. I came around the bend and the light just shoe so well through the fog that I just stopped (there was no one on the road) and stepped on foot out of my car and snapped this shot.Editing
Hardly any. I am a big fan of trying to imitate what natures real colors and the actual scene looked like. Some minor dodging and a bit if warmth. In my camera bag
I carry all my gear all the time. I have a backpack with my camera body; 18-200 lens, 12-24 lens, and 200-500 lens. Along with my waterproof housing for surf and fish photography. And I always have my GoPro (which I am still learning how to use).Feedback
I almost turned around a couple times on this road before I found this bend with the light shining through. My point is is that I was scared my car was going to get stuck and that I'd be trapped up there in the snow. My whole career (well pursued career) I have always taken a step towards fear instead of turning around and running away afraid. This photo, to me, was a gift for the curiosity and the fear for continuing.
