Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my backyard while having a morning cup of tea.

Time

I usually have my morning cup of tea in the garden and noticed the stream of morning sunlight across my small vegetable bed highlighting the blooming onions.

Lighting

The mid-morning light was particularly beautiful streaming through the crepe myrtles. All of the flowers and even the simple vegetables looked beautiful. It created a highlighted silhouette with the shadows behind the flower from the tall privacy fence.

Equipment

I used my Canon T3i, handheld, and trying to get as close to the flower as possible.

Inspiration

I always enjoy the morning in the garden on my day off. When the sunlight was so beautiful that morning, I had to get my camera and start shooting. I took several close-up photos of flowers that morning but this one was the best.

Editing

I did minimal post-processing because I really get very frustrated working with photoshop. I think I just put a vignette surrounding the flower and cropping.

In my camera bag

I usually carry very limited equipment when I go out to take pictures. I generally have an idea of what I want to shoot. So, it's the camera and one lens, sometimes a tripod if I will do long exposure or far away shots. The lens I use most frequently is a telephoto kit lens either 300mm or 250mm. Most of the pictures I take recently have been backyard birds and shorebirds. All of my equipment is a Canon 80D with a kit lens.

Feedback

Look for the beauty around you. You don't have to go far. Your backyard, the street, or in your house. A sleeping baby is the most beautiful and precious scene around every parent! Pay attention to lighting and have your camera ready.
