Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot at Beaver Lake, outside the Elisha Mitchell Audubon Bird Sanctuary.

Time

In the early afternoon, which was actually best since the sun was overhead but slightly angled.

Lighting

Natural lighting works better than artificial in capturing the full details of natural landscapes, plants and animals. Whatever adjustments are made in post-production are minimal without sacrificing details.

Equipment

NIKON D7100.

Inspiration

I had seen turtles before, but never in that alignment, and I wanted to capture order within a fragile environment currently under protection.

Editing

Mostly the same - cropping, toning down the highlights and slightly boosting the color levels.

In my camera bag

Usually my CANON D7100, with Strobe Flash, rechargeable batteries, micro-fiber cleaning cloths and an extra lens.

Feedback

It usually best to capture shots like these following a period of rain during moderately warmer months in spring and autumn.
