Location
This photo was taken in my home studio. I love creating my own beauty shoots, so a lot of my work is done at home.Time
This was a daytime photographic session indoors.Lighting
This was a studio shoot, so the lighting was artificial. A light was placed either side of the models to ensure the face was sufficiently lit & to pick up the crystals & the single lilac colour around the eye.Equipment
My camera at the time was a Samsung digital bridge camera mounted on a flash. The lighting was the only other equipment.Inspiration
I am a makeup artist aswell as an amateur photographer, and I like creating editorial beauty images. This one with crystals & one eye made up was an image that I'd had in my head for a while, and so I was able to bring my vision to life.Editing
I tend not to overcomplicate my images post processing. The only thing I really did was to enhance the colours, brighten the image & smooth the skin where there was uneven skin tone or blemishes. In my camera bag
I now have a Sony digital bridge camera, DSC-RX10. Being mostly studio based, my additional staple equipment is a tripod, especially for portrait shots. My studio lights of course, which are portable if I need them to be. I also have some filters : a soft focus, centre spot & neutral density.Feedback
Ensure your model is sufficiently lit for a full face lighting shot to catch the light from crystals, glitter etc. If the model angles their face or you turn off one of the lights this can also catch crystals or glitter in an alternative way. Try different face angles & lighting angles to highlight these kind of materials.
