Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my home. I saw the sunlight streaming into my backyard and I knew it would be perfect for a backlit photo.

Time

I took this picture at sunset. I love the beautiful, golden light that you get at sunset. The lighting is soft and can really enhance your photo.

Lighting

Personally, sunset is my favorite time of day to shoot. The lighting you get is amazing. At sunset, i love how the light can hit certain objects at an angle and really change the way you see things ~ making boring things look really interesting.

Equipment

This picture was taken with my Nikon D3200 with my Nikon 55-200mm lens. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

I've always seen those photos of a lion prowling in the desert somewhere and when I got a kitten I was hoping to get a similar picture. I looked over and saw my kitten slowly walking through the grass. I knew it would be perfect. I tried to get even with the subject and really try to capture the kitten crawling through the grass as if it's about to crawl right out of the image.

Editing

Nope! No post-processing. Just straight out of the camera

In my camera bag

I always pack my Nikon D3200 with my 18-55mm lens attached. Then I bring along my zoom lens. Which is a 55-200mm. I always pack a few extra batteries and memory cards and take along my Nikon WU-1a so I can share the photos, too.

Feedback

To get a really good backlit photo, you need light that is close to the ground. So taking pictures at sunrise or sunset is really good for that. Try to get even with the sun and your subject. If you can do that, you'll get a really good backlit photo.
