This was taken in our studio, or let me rephrase it, my girlfriend room. Here in portugal houses are really small, and rent spaces are so expensive, so we photographer must take things into our hands and improvise with what we had. So thats my girlfriend, her curtain, on christmas holydays, just having fun and experimenting.Time
Well it was take at night, curtains pulled, and single light source above left, in a 1x2meters space.Lighting
Yeah it was light from the up right side of camera, with an improvised beauty dish made from two vase plates, attached to one another, stuck on a speed light. I Love the contrast and softness that the beauty dish makes.Equipment
OLympus em5 with 50 mm f2 macro zuiko lens, amazing one, great detail, altough a bit slow to focus.Inspiration
I love creative portaits, and my girl had recently bought this amazing dress, wich i loved, so we tough of putting it to immediate use and take some christmas inpired images. We decided to make a santas claus and assistant from snow, for a photo-montage, in the end of that session, we simply decided to make some creative portaits to go with the idea. So we chosed her curtains as background, which are dark, but have detail that contrasts well the dress, making it a sparkling image.Editing
Yeahh, but not a lot. I transformed it in black and white to get the contrast of white dress on dark curtains, and show off the amazing textures, some contrast enhancement, and some simple dodge&burn. I liked how it came out of camera so didnt change a lot.In my camera bag
I normally have always a prime with me, as i like those soft full apertures they provide, and a macro lens, as i sometimes like to get close and get details. A 12-60 is always with me too (24-120 on 35mm). But what comes always is my 5 in 1 reflector, great use as i can control the light by bouncing on silver white gold or mixed, or use it as scrim, to soften sun light. Another one that always with me is a flash support with a sprin so i can attach it anywhere.Feedback
Just when you thing you got the image you wanted to make, if you have time, explore what other things you can do with the setting, the model, the make up she has, and play around, photography is all about experimenting....i know, theres all that technical stuff and numbers, physics, bla bla bla, but theres the artistic, creative side to it, which only gets better by experimenting, do it, and have fun
