It looks a little be like the pictures of the skies over Kansas where my daughter is living now. Lots of cloud movement in the air during a storm. Nice capture! Have a nice weekend!

While storm chasing in SW Oklahoma I was following a severe thunderstorm as it approached Oklahoma City. Just as I passed Union City (SW of OKC) I made a quick right turn to get a better view of the storm. The off the beaten path dirt road led up a small hill with the barn and the violent storm clouds above. This was one of the shots that you just have to take.Time
In the early evening around 7 pm with the sun to my back (camera right) with just enough light to pop the green field and darken the skiesLighting
With all the spring storms we get in Oklahoma we almost always have a chance to catch magical sunsets. Everything lined up perfect light, field, barn, and sky.Equipment
I captured the image with my Nikon D610 and Tamron 24-70Inspiration
The whole vibe of the shot was in my wheelhouse as I really have a passion for shooting Southwestern farmland with old homesteads in Western OklahomaEditing
A standard 3 shot +1, 0, -1 bracket blended in Photomatix Pro and tweaked in Lightroom. It is really difficult to keep from pushing the effect to far. I normally try to stay as close as I can to normal processing and add a hint/splash of HDR ...In my camera bag
My suv is my bag :) I never go anywhere with out taking at least one of my cameras with me. I have a Nikon D610 and D7100 and depending on what I am shooting one will have my 24-70 f/2.8 the other will have 70-200 f/2.8. and they interchange well. I also carry a 14-24 f/2.8 along with my 50mm f/1.8 and 35mm f/1.8 (DX) glass. A speedlight and a 10 Stop ND and a 5 stop ND ...Feedback
I am often asked why I go out to shoot when the weather is so horrid. I explain to people that so many images are just waiting to be captured if you just go out in the rain, the snow, the wind etc. Just always have an escape route for when you are chasing storms, have plenty of water, blankets, cell phone, flashlight and anything else you might need if you get stuck in the winter. I challenge my photog friends to get in the car, pick a direction, and go. Have no set agenda and drive till that road ends. I promise, you will find something at the end of the road, you always do. Also know your area, take your time and explore the areas 20 miles from home, 50 miles, 1 mile, it matters not. Just get out there and let the wind guide you.
