Location
The photo was taken at a neighbors house, they had taken in three adorable stray kittens and fed and nourished them until they were strong enough to find new homes.Time
It was around 2:00 in the afternoon, so I waited until they moved into the shade under the porch and were playing in and around a few empty crates in the shade. Since the porch overhang blocked the strong force of the sun almost directly overhead the image was beautifully lit by the surrounding natural lighting.Lighting
I love natural lighting! There is something so beautiful about the way photos look in natural light. It's true that it can be more challenging since it is less controllable but it definitely pays off in the end!Equipment
I shot this with my Nikon D5200, and a 18 - 55mm lens.Inspiration
My inspiration came from the kittens themselves... getting an awesome photo of one of them took a lot of time and patience but definitely wasn't hard to do!Editing
Usually I would spend as much time retouching as I do taking the picture. You can take a beautiful looking photo and there is still a massive amount of things that can be done to improve it, to get that ultimate look. In this case I really did not have to touch it at all! I brought it in, fired up Lightroom, and didn't make one change other than bringing down the highlights a touch. The beautiful natural color in her eyes right out of the camera was amazing! In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon D5200, always with a battery grip and extra batteries, a 18 - 55mm Nikon kit lens, a 50mm prime, and a Sigma 70 - 300mm lens. Other accessories are just a few filters, cards, and cleaning equipment.Feedback
Just have a lot of patience, take as many pictures as you want, and then take 200 more. You never know what you are going to get when you are taking pictures of animals and the more pictures you take, the more chances you have to capture that winning shot!
