Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of my sister for a photography project in my undergraduate photography class. The project was a series of photos of a traditional Pakistani girl looking displaced in a NYC Urban Community. My sisters outfit and hairpiece are all pieces from Pakistan and she did a wonderful job looking reflectively through the front door of our home in Queens, NYC, at the busy street before her. You can see the reflection of the street and the sky before her on the glass door.

Time

This was closer to 5 PM in the last afternoon.

Lighting

This was late afternoon and no direct sunlight.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3200 camera.

Inspiration

The traditional clothing was an inspiration for this photo and having my sister model it was helpful. I wanted her to look as traditional as possible and thus displaced in a urban community and home.

Editing

No.

In my camera bag

Just my Nikon d3200 at this time. Now I own and carry around a Sony alpha 6000 and a tripod for it as well as a remote control device to snap photos of myself as I wish.

Feedback

I think reflections with glass and having the proper lightening adds to dimensions for a photo like this to appear more reflective.
