Behind The Lens

Location

Okanogan Washington

Time

Early afternoon

Lighting

The lighting is all natural, what you see is what was there. At the time Twisp and Winthrop area were on fire, about 20 miles from where we were staying, and Omak was on fire, about 10 miles from where we were. I was just waiting for word that we should evacuate. We were in a home on the mountain surrounded by trees and it had been a drought year so everything was dry, even the pond in the picture was down about 5 feet. The sky color was due to all the smoke in the sky.

Equipment

I was using my Nikon Coolpix L840, hand held, no flash

Inspiration

What I could see off of the deck was absolutely wonderful in color and the reflection certainly didn't hurt. It was a rare opportunity for me to see this color of sky born out of fire and destruction. I wanted to save that.

Editing

Not real smart when it comes to post-processing. So no, I didn't.

In my camera bag

I now carry a Nikon P900. I have batteries, 8, cards 16 and 32 gb. 6. two battery chargers, cleaners, tri pod, although I am still trying to figure out how to set the view finder where I want it and tighten it down, it doesn't seem to be going very well. And a slew of cords for transferring, charging.

Feedback

I still have days I would like to fling the camera over a cliff so I don't feel I can give advice to anyone except keep trying. It's not the camera, it's the operator.
