Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in the beautiful canyon Erma, where the river has made its way through the granite rocks connecting Bulgaria with Serbia. Not only it’s famous for the views it offers, but there a lot of stories from the war to be told. After a long day of walking in the canyon, I had located the best spot for the perfect photo.

Time

It was no more than an hour before sunset, so I didn’t have time to lose.

Lighting

As the harsh shadows were fading away and the sunlight was getting dimmer the true beauty of the place reviled in front of my eyes. After some rock climbing to reach the desired place I started mounting my Nikon D90 with NIKKOR 16-85 on my tripod as quickly as possible. It was a nerve-racking game with the light, a few moments earlier the shadows would have ruined the shot, few later and there wouldn’t have been enough light illuminating the river.

Equipment

Nikon D90, Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, ND Filter, Tripod

Inspiration

I was inspired to explore this part of Bulgaria as a photographer a long time ago. For the first time, I visited it when I was a regular student. Ever since am seeing good and bad pictures of it, but none of them reveals the calmness, does not show the dynamics of the flowing river, the beauty of the massive rocks which like a song repeat the echo of the water. I did my best to show my perspective of the world.

Editing

As for the post-processing, this picture has almost none accept the basic RAW filter correction and color/contrast corrections in Photoshop after that

In my camera bag

As a travel photographer, I have to always be prepared for any situations that might appear. Currently, in my backpack (Hama Daytour 230), I have my main body Nikon D750 with Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR and my second body Nikon D90, which may sound antique to you, but for me is one of the best and most durable Nikon bodies with Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR attached on it. I always carry with me a full set of filters, extra batteries, SD Cards

Feedback

For those of you who want to present to the world your favorite place, my advice is to spend as much time as possible there, feel the vibe, explore the details that remain hidden for the come and go tourist, choose the right time and never rush it.
