Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the downtown streets of Campbell, California.

Time

This image is one of my favorites, a serendipity moment. It was taken about 2:00 pm or so in the afternoon, after a nice lunch together.

Lighting

We were under a nice shaded area under a huge tree, so that created a nice even light. Then I used a Nikon speed light to fill in any dark areas of her face.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5100 with a 28-50mm 3.4 aperture lens. I used my mono tripod to stabilize for the perfect still shot.

Inspiration

Dance. I find dance to be a beautiful art, I admire highly. I was inspired to capture the emotion of ballet dancers in an urban setting.

Editing

With this photo I used both Lightroom and Photoshop to get the right contrast for the black and white. Then I added a little more motion blur to the car to get movement in the photo.

In my camera bag

In my bag I have my Sony a7sii camera with a 35mm 1.8 aperture lens and my backup Nikon D5100 with a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 aperture lens. Extra batteries and charger is always important just in case; and a speed light for those hard to manipulate the light situations. Attached to the side of my bag I carry my tripod used for both photographing and video recording.

Feedback

Just have fun, relax, and be patient with yourself. To get movement slow down the shutter speed and use a tripod to get perfect focus on your subject.
