Location

I took this photo at Boskoppie Lion And Tiger Reserve based in Kroonstad in the Free State, In South Africa.

Time

It was about 1.00pm during the day, but we were in the shade.

Lighting

Natural lighting, situated under a large shady tree.

Equipment

Camera Fuji FinePix S3Pro Lens Sigma APO DG 70-300mm 1/100Sec F9.5 Iso 800 No flash No tripod

Inspiration

We were on a guided tour through the Lion and Tiger Reserve. Perfect time and place for this photo.

Editing

No post processing on this photo.

In my camera bag

My trusty camera, Lots of batteries, a plastic packet and elastic bands if it rains. Sigma EF-500DG Super Flash.

Feedback

This was the best out of 5 frames, as the tiger cub was moving towards me. I would suggest getting down to eye level, but be careful of tiger cubs, as they attack you from behind, so it is a good idea to have a partner protecting you whilst you are looking through the camera, and even though this little guy is only 3 months old, those little nails hurt. "No photographers were hurt in the making of these photos, Much." I managed to zoom in with my lens to capture the eyes and water droplets on the nose. I don't have to tell you, be ready for movement, when it comes to animals, that is why I have my iso on 800 but I was outside so there was sufficient light. Make sure you place yourself into a good position to capture the "bam" shots, especially if you are in a large group, even if you have to stay behind to capture the animals full attention.
