Behind The Lens

Location

The Tulsa Zoo in Tulsa, OK

Time

I remember capturing this image very well! It was mid-afternoon and I was getting ready to leave the zoo when the male lion began roaring so I can over to capture the male, but I found something very serene about the lioness. It turned out to be one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken.

Lighting

This photo was taken in natural light. No flash and minimal editing as well.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5500 with a 50-300mm lens. The photo was taken handheld and without a flash.

Inspiration

I have always loved the zoo and I go quite a few times each year. The day that I took this photo I was experimenting with shooting in raw.

Editing

The only post-processing done to this photo was tweaking the exposure just a smidge.

In my camera bag

I always carry my camera body, a fixed lense and a zoom lense. Along with those, I also carry a backup battery and a numerous amount of memory cards. Depending on the type of shoot I am at I will throw in a tripod or a reflector.

Feedback

The best thing I could suggest would be to simply stay aware of your surroundings and remember that animals are wild creatures and can change their actions at the drop of a hat.
