Location
I am an amateur photographer and I simply love recording all aspects of my life in photographs. I took this particular shot at The Notre Dame Cathedral during a city break to Paris in February 2012.Time
This photograph was taken as I was experimenting and playing around with the gargoyles and the view from the top of the cathedral. If I'm honest I was quite new to photography at this stage and probably lucked into this shot to some degree. I just love to try to look at everything from a slightly different viewpoint.Lighting
As it was a really dull and cold February day I felt that the image worked much better in these grey tones than it did as the original coloured image.Equipment
I used nothing other than my small Fujifilm Finepix JZ510 pocket camera resting on a wall. I didn't even own a tripod at this stage!Inspiration
I was fascinated by the gargoyles - seeing something beautiful in their grotesque appearance. I wanted to include them in a shot of the city. This particular gargoyle just looked so bored and fed up with the view that he caught my attention and I wanted to try and capture that feeling in my shot.Editing
I simply processed the image as a grayscale image as opposed to the original color. I also played around a little with contrast and exposure to get the tones to where I wanted them.In my camera bag
My camera, a spare battery and about six memory cards. I take a LOT of photographs!Feedback
I don't really know a lot about the finer details of photography so I don't spend a lot of time setting the shot up. I just look around me and when I see something that catches my attention I try to capture it from a range of angles. For every shot that I'm happy with I probably delete thirty or forty shots - I know that it's not how it's supposed to be done but it seems to work for me!
