Patience Rewarded

Took a while for them to get used to me but eventually one was nice enough to pose for me.

Behind The Lens

Location

Shot this at Victoria Park in Kitchener, Ontario. It's only a few blocks from my house so I'm there most days when the weather permits.

Time

This was later in the afternoon. I'd already spent a few hours in the park and was heading home when I spotted this guy and some of his friends hanging out in a small group of trees.

Lighting

Shot in afternoon daylight on a sunny summer day.

Equipment

Shot this on my old Canon T5i with the 18-135mm kit lens. It sits on a shelf now but it served me well.

Inspiration

I like the engagement. He knew I was there.

Editing

Just a few of the usual adjustments, nothing fancy for this one.

In my camera bag

At the time all I had was the Canon and that kit lens. Now I carry a Canon 5DMkIV and a 100mm macro lens. I keep a 70-200mm in the bag but seldom use it anymore. I'm not a gear collector really.

Feedback

This particular shot is an excellent example of the benefits of patience. I stood there at least 20 minutes letting them get used to me and waiting for one of them to climb out of the hole in the tree (out of frame). I've shot hundreds if not thousands of photos in this park. I go back to teach myself to see things I haven't seen before; different light, different season, new angle, new composition. I no longer try to shoot something different every time but to shoot differently.
