Location
This photo was taken in Bedford town centre with my new (then) canon 1100D as part of my first foray into the world of DSLRsTime
This was taken around 1pm which is probably the best time for shooting these statues as the sun is overhead rather than playing on the front or backlighting them.Lighting
As above, the lighting for this shot came from overhead sunlight.Equipment
Canon 1100D with 18-55mm kit lensInspiration
This is one of a pair of statues in the town centre which have divided opinion. they are referred to as the Marmite Faces because people either love them or hate them. Personally i think they are fantastic and a credit to their creator Rick Kirby!Editing
As i was new to digital photography i used some basic free editing software, in this case, Google Silver Efex Pro, which was part of the (then) newly released Nik collection. In my camera bag
Since this photo was taken, i have progressed up to a Canon 750D and now onto a Canon 6D. I have a range of lenses that i use from a 24-105mm f4 to a Sigma 150-600mm C. I also use (on my crop sensor) a Sigma 18-35mm Art f1.8 and a Sigma 105mm f2.8. I never travel without a tripod and shutter release these days!Feedback
Practice, practice, practice! When i started out, it took me a lot of shots to get the result i wanted but this has become much easier as i try and get out with the camera on every possible occasion. Even bad shots can be good IF you learn from them!
