Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in my college apartment during my Junior year of school, in Alfred, NY. It was just a fun filled night with some friends who knew I loved to have my camera on at all times.

Time

Though I don't remember the exact date this photo was taken I remember we had ordered pizza and just wanted to have a fun night together before finals week.

Lighting

The lighting for this image is surprisingly just the florescent lights of the dorm room, and some street light coming in from the window.

Equipment

All I used to photograph this image was my Canon AE-1 35mm camera. No other extra equipment was used as I was shooting fast and candid images.

Inspiration

I love seeing my friends in their true state and this was really the moment everyone let themselves be free of all the stress of the week and just got to have fun.

Editing

For me, I tend to avoid too much post processing, I took the image the way it was for a reason, so for this image when scanning it into the computer I just messed around with the contrast a bit and evened out the color balance.

In my camera bag

Right now I have 7 different lenses along with two of my cameras, my Canon AE-1 and my Canon EOS Rebel t6i. My favorite of my lenses are my new 35mm lens for my DSLR and a 10-18mm which is just fantastic for wide shots. I also keep lens cleaning supplies in my bag as well as a light meter.

Feedback

If you are hanging out with your friends let them know on a night in (or out) that you will have the camera out. In a crazy and energetic moment people tend to forget the camera s on them and it allows for some amazing photos. For me it was really important to inform my friends that I was shooting that even gin because the Canon AE-1 has a pretty loud shutter, and I didn't want them to be caught off guard. But my main advice is bring your camera everywhere and shoot everything. Some of the best photographs come from unexpected moments.
