Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, MN called Spill The Wine.

Time

I was out to dinner with a group of friends when I snapped this shot. It was a bit of an afterthought just as I was getting up from the table.

Lighting

I wanted to utilize only the lighting provided by the candles street lights beyond the windows.

Equipment

I believe this was taken with my Nikon D90, with a Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens. No tripod or flash.

Inspiration

Just the way the light was showing through the wine glass. It looked interesting enough to capture.

Editing

Some. Just photoshop elements or Lightroom to adjust clarity, contrast and color saturation.

In my camera bag

Currently, a Nikon D610, Nikkor 28-300mm FX, Nikon 50mm f1.4 and Sigma 12-24mm. I also have one extra battery and some cleaning supplies.

Feedback

Crank up the ISO and widen the aperture to avoid camera shake, that is if you don't have a tripod. If it's too grainy, that can be adjusted in post. A tripod is ideal but in situations like this one, not very practical. This was a spur of the moment capture. Be sparing in your use of Photoshop. The idea is to adjust the image to how you remember seeing it.
