Location
This was taken from the Champs de Mars near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was my last full day in Europe back in September of 2014. Thankfully, the weather was perfect so I got up early and explored the city.Time
I believe this was taken around 9:30 AM. Nice morning sun and sparse cloud cover made for a lovely day.Lighting
The lighting is pretty straight forward. No flash, no long exposure, nothing fancy. Just set the white balance to "daylight" and kept the camera in aperture priority.Equipment
I used a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens. No need for a tripod as the bright sun kept the shutter speed high.Inspiration
Before I left for Europe, a friend of mine told me to take a photo of the Eiffel Tower for her. I wanted to think of something different since millions of other people take photos of the tower every year. So, I came up with this on the fly. I thought it would make for a much more interesting take on photographing a popular landmark. It was also somewhat of a commentary on how obsessed people are with their smartphone cameras.Editing
My post-processing was very minimal. I just made some slight adjustments to the exposure, contrast, clarity and color saturation. I think I was using Photoshop Elements 8 at the time.In my camera bag
Right now I have a Nikon Z6 with a Z to AF adapter. Lenses I use are: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G, Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G and Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 AF II DG HSMFeedback
When site seeing, ask yourself "Why does this scene interest me?". If you can hone in on what part of the scene caught your eye, e.g. shadows, perspective, colors, shapes, then you're more likely able to capture an image you're happy with.
