Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the vicinity of a small town called "Las Flores", Buenos Aires, Argentina. I love night photography, it was my first night out with a group of professional photographers, that is, with more experience than me. Aware that it was a challenge, with great optimism I joined the adventure. However, have to say that I was very flattered and surprised with the results!

Time

We left walking with the group after dinner, it was a dark night in the middle of the field, there I saw this abandoned mill, I could barely see through the darkness. It seemed very original, although the landscape I had in mind was different, I moved away from the group and immediately prepared the tripod, the camera, the remote shutter and just shoot, the experience was fantastic! It was taken early, a nice spring night, full of bright stars due to the new moon, at 10:25 pm.

Lighting

No, my idea was to avoid light pollution because I wanted to highlight the stars, looking for the most important ones, but there was a light leak possibly from a car, on the right side where there is more warmth, but fortunately that effect made the shot more interesting, with more contrast.

Equipment

It was shot with a nikon D5300, a 18-105 mm, f 3,5 lens, a tripod and a remote shutter. That´s all.

Inspiration

Many things ... I am a visual artist, what motivated me the most were the works of the genius Vincent van Gogh because I know his history, his works, then that special music ...! it's my passion !!! That starry night was always in my mind, when I started studying photography, I was seduced by night photography, although right now I am with another subject for a while.

Editing

Just a little, I cut a bit with photoshop the top edge, so that it has balance with the bottom.

In my camera bag

I usually carry just what I am going to use in the place, considering the type of shot I am going to make. Bodies of my Nikon D5300 and Canon T5I, although I always prefer Nikon. Lens Nikkor 18-105 mm, 55-300 mm, portable flash, remote shutter, extra battery and sometimes the tripod.

Feedback

I'm not a professional photographer, but my humble opinion about outdoor night photography is to look for quiet places, leave your nerves at home, away from the city to avoid light pollution, ideal conditions to achieve unique shots of starry nights. Take into account also the weather conditions and the time of year, highly recommended when there is new moon.
