Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a makeshift wooden table next to a window in my tiny one bedroom apartment.

Time

The photo is capturing melted better being brushed over the top of these loaves of Roasted Sweet Balsamic Peaches Stuffed Honey Buttermilk Bread. This recipe took me over three days to test and retest until I was pleased with the results. This moment was one of the last photos I took of the bread before I quickly devoured a slice.

Lighting

I wanted this image to be darker but still have contrasts of light with it. The light is focusing on the two loaves of bread and the dripping of melted butter.

Equipment

This image was shot on a Canon Rebel T5i with a 50mm f/1.8 lens and a 10 second timer.

Inspiration

In my photography, I want to capture a moment, a step as you will, in the food making process. Showing the way the butter drips from the brush before being glazed onto each loaf of bread, it invites the viewer in and allows them to make connections from past experiences. Food has such a powerful grip when it comes to memories, it's my job as a food photography to capture those moments.

Editing

I always use Lightroom to edit my photos. Just turn on some indie rock and simply edit.

In my camera bag

I typically have my Rebel T5i, my 18-55mm lens as well as my 50mm f/1.8 lens. I can capture pretty much anything between those two lens. If I'm shooting for a client on location, I carry everything in my Caden Camera Shoulder Bag Backpack. It has a plethora of pockets where I carry extra batteries, chargers, my wallet, phone, keys, etc.

Feedback

Lighting in everything.
