I took this photo just outside of an Hindu temple, somewhere in Kerala or Karnataka, southern India.Time
I can't say i programmed this particular image, i was there to visit a temple actually. Time of the day is obviously important but during a trip you often have to shoot at any time, reagardless of the available light.Lighting
Luckily, in spite of the hour, the light wasn't harsh. It was cloudy, which helps a lot to avoid dark shadowsEquipment
The most important thing in nature photography is a good telephoto lens. To photograph this squirrel i used my Canon ef 300 f4 lens (the old one, without image stabilization) on a Canon 40d body.Inspiration
Wildlife photography is what i like the most, so I always have a telephoto lens with me while travelling. Wildlife encounters are easier in many country than in Europe, so i just had to look around and be ready when the squirrel struck a cute pose.Editing

To take similar pictures you have to be at the same height of the subject, isolate it over a clean background using a shallow depth of field, and wait for an interesting pose or action. But believe me, when you are talking about wildlife photography, the hardest thing is to find your subjects and to get close enough without harming them nor altering their behaviours. Squirrels or city animals in general are funny and beautiful exceptions
