Location
This photo was taken in the Racine Zoo in Racine, WI.Time
Around noon. It was very sunny that day.Lighting
I had no lighting kit. Just the camera and the sun.Equipment
I used my Canon T3i with an EFS 55-250mm lens (f/4.5-5.6). The ability to zoom in with a wide range of aperture is what helped capture the bird while getting good mid-ground focus.Inspiration
I wanted to take more photos of animals. There was no preference of what animal I wanted to photograph. I was interested in getting unique movements and expressions on animals ; some way to make the images look alive.Editing
I mostly did image sharpening, exposure, contrast, vibrance, and saturation adjustments. No clone stamping if any sort. The post-processing was simple. In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon T3i. I mainly use two lenses: my kit lens (EFS 18-55mm) and then my telephoto lens (EFS 55-250mm). The telephoto is awesome! I love how I can get incredible close-ups if I'm in a tough spot.Feedback
Have a telephoto zoom lens. Birds move a lot! They can come close to you; they can fly away; and they settle in corners. Having a zoom lens, especially if it's telephoto, can help you adjust fast and still get good angles and close-ups while they're still moving and being natural. And always, have patience and keep shooting.
