Location
This photo was created digitally using several different shots in different locations. The background is a sunset taken in Torquay, Australia. The rocks are actually the outlines of the some of the twelve apostles, located further down the Victorian coastline. As for the human silhouettes, they are stills from video footage of myself doing a Triple Jump (my favourite event in athletics).Time
Late evening, sunset.Lighting
I wanted the image to feel warm and calm, with a sense of adventure. I felt that a silhouette lighting would illustrate my idea well.Equipment
Background: Nikon D50 18-55mm lens Silhouettes: iPhone video capture - still framesInspiration
I am a high school student, with a passion for both athletics and photography. When the opportunity to express both these passions came around, I couldn't resist. Triple Jump has been my main focus in athletics, and aside from it being fun it has taken me to the national stage on several occasions. I wanted a way to describe my take on the sport - calm and relaxing, yet rigorously demanding on the body. I've always imagine the triple jump as a test of how big a gap you can clear - how far the human body can take you (in theory anyway, there's no way I would actually try rocking hopping like this..)Editing
This is one of my more heavily edited photographs, due to the many different photos being put together. The background didn't receive much attention, but the other objects needed to be retrieved from their initial images and turned into black silhouettes. The human figure was taken as a still from video footage of myself doing a triple jump during training, and the rocks are shrunken versions of the twelve apostlesIn my camera bag
During the time I took this, I had a Nikon D50 with a 55mm and a 200mm lens. Since I do photography at school however, I now often use one of their Nikon D3300's. The school has the option of 10mm, 18-55mm, and 55-200mm lenses. I often use one of their tripods for landscape shots as well.Feedback
I think doing this kind of photo should be achievable with some basic camera/photoshop skills. I took this about a year or two ago when I had some pretty basic knowledge about cameras and how to use layer masks etc. on photoshop. All I can say is you don't need to be experienced or skilled to be creative!
