Behind The Lens

Location

Garden Of The Gods, Colorado Springs, Colorado USA

Time

5:38PM

Lighting

The best time to photograph Garden Of The Gods is at sunrise or sunset when the light is golden.

Equipment

The camera is Canon 7D, and the lens is Canon EF24-105mm f/4L. I usually have a tripod when photographing landscape, but I did not have it this time.

Inspiration

This was Wednesday, after winter storm, when suddenly the clouds rolled in Garden Of he Gods and over Pikes Peak, and I happened to be at the right place at the right time.Garden of the Gods is a very famous place and winter is among best times to photograph this place, especially after winter storm.

Editing

I post process this image in Adobe Lightroom CS5. The foreground was too dark because of the bright sunset, so I used the Graduated Filter and selected just the background, and added exposure to make it less dark. Then I opened the image in Topaz Clarity filter, and selected sunset option (Can't remember if it's Sunset I,II or III).

In my camera bag

I carry everything just in case I find something worth photographing. That includes Camera (Canon 7D), lenses (Canon 10-22mm f/3.5, Canon 24-105mm f/4L, Canon 50mm f/1.4) and 2 flashes.

Feedback

It could have probably been better to take HDR picture, expose for the highlights, then expose for the shadows and merge them your software of choice.
