In all of the decade + years that I’ve been coming to Brasil I have always been fascinated with the Tucano. There are areas of the country where they are more prevalent than others. I have some nephews who live in one of those areas with whom I have sparked their interest in photography. They have always teased me with better photos of Tucano than I was ever able to get, until I went to this part of Brasil (Foz do Iguacu). They are EVERYWHERE! In the trees right outside your hotel room. In trees along the trails where you walk. Flying by while you’re driving in your car. Just everywhere! But my coup de gras was early one morning in the observation tower of the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas (located inside the national park) hoping to get some shots of the sun rising on the falls, some of the local WILD Tucano saw fit to grace a couple of my shots. I was able to post this image on Facebook with a note to my nephews, “Ok, you might have better Tucano shots than I do, but do you have any with Iguacu in the background?” :-)
