This photo was taken in my studio and was edited to look somewhat like a painting. We used vintage clothing for this photo and once it was done, it reminded me of a little Russian girl. So, I titled it: Russian Princess, The Look.Time
The photo was taken during the daytime in my studio.Lighting
I wanted the lighting to be bright and soft since she is a little girl, yet some small shadows especially on the right side of her face to give it more depth by her right eye. She has that LOOK in her eyes (Sassy) which I wanted to really be the main focus in this photo.Equipment
The camera I used for this photo was the Canon 70D and a the 24-105 Canon L Lens. I used a tripod, no flash, and a studio light. The light I used was a Yonguno Strobe and a silver reflector to help bounce the light.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo first, because she is my granddaughter. I love to be creative with my photography and she is always willing to dress the part for me. Second...once she was in the vintage clothing, the whole look inspired me to give it the painterly look. :-) I take photos with my camera and use the editing software later to create the vision I had in my mind.Editing
Yes, I do! I always have said,The editing process is where all the magic begins!! I use Lightroom 5 to work with the RAW format, and from there I do most of the final work in Elements 13. Many people believe you have to use Photoshop, but I feel Elements 13 gives me everything I need to create my work with and at a fraction of the price. :-)In my camera bag
My bag always consist of a Tokina wide angle lens, 24-105 Canon L Lens and my 70-200 Canon L Lens. A tripod, trigger and a Polarized and ND filter. Extra batteries and cards are a must!!Feedback
You ask what advice I have to capture a photo as this one. My only advice is: look at the model you are about to photograph and let your mind create it first in your head. What do you see and what do you want the end photo to be? Use your camera to start the process of creating what you have already created in your mind. I am so familiar with my editing software, that I know by looking at a scene before me, what I can use later in my editing tools to achieve my final image. I have always said: A photo is your canvas on which you can began to create the beauty you see in your minds eye! I love photography and the whole creative artistic challenges it gives me!!
