Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in Hoi An, a small town in the middle of Viêt Nam. This ancient city and its old city center is really famous and iconic with its narrow streets and pastel-yellow houses.

Time

It was in the afternoon, soon to be the golden hour, but you can't really see it here

Lighting

Small streets and shadows make this picture a good perspective, an invitation to follow the person and the path. The colors are so particular and simple, yellow walls, white skye, black dress, and far away a red vietnamese flag hanging from the roof

Equipment

This was shot with my D750 and my Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens

Inspiration

My friend just went to her tailor to pick up her handmade black dress by the ancient traditionnal vietnamese way, and was so proud of it and happy, cause it was her birthday. I wanted to take a picture of her but she wasn't comfortable in front of a camera. So when we headed back from the shop, I took this one when following her across these narrow streets.

Editing

I just cropped the picture a bit after, to avoid stuffs written on the wall, and to center more on the subject.

In my camera bag

I travel a lot and with a small backpack. Therefore every kg count, and I use my d750, a 50mm f1.4 and 20mm f1.8 lens, a small Joby tripod and my laptop.

Feedback

Hoi An is amazing and so picturesque. I stayed in this city for more than a month cause I was working there, and I there I took probably my best pictures during my travel time.
