Behind The Lens

Location

It was on Skhirat Beach in Rabat, Morocco and I was ankle deep in the water with my tripod at the time.

Time

Sunset obviously :) but it was after a long day at work so don't remember the actual time. I'd certainly been in the water about 30 minutes waiting for the sun to go down and starting capturing a few of the locals out for an evening walk.

Lighting

I was hoping the sun wouldn't disappear too quick behind the houses but got lucky once I took up my position in the sea. It's incredible just how fast the light can change - some earlier shots of just a few minutes pervious were completely different and certainly didn't give the same reflection on the water.

Equipment

Canon EOS 600D on a tripod with 10-22mm lens.

Inspiration

I was in Morocco for work and staying at the hotel located on Skhirat Beach. I'd already decided a decent sunset shot was on my list of things to do before I left. I remember walking across a vast empty beach at the time and setting up with my tripod. Before long I was taking on water up to my ankles but stayed put. Seeing a varied amount of people walking along the beach initially put me off as I wanted a clean empty beach/sunset shot, but in the end it worked out good.

Editing

Apart from cropping, nothing.

In my camera bag

It depends where I am, what I'm doing. My iPhone 6s is the one I always have with me, but for most planned outings it would be my Canon 70D with pretty standard all-in-one 16-300mm. What I love most is the Eye-Fi SD card which allows quick transfer to my iPhone.

Feedback

I think if you go about any shoot without great expectations it work best for the mind. Then when you look back, the surprise at getting a great capture, leaves a good smile. That's the key, have fun and enjoy it.
