This photo was taken in my home studio in London. We converted our cellar from a workshop and storage into a small studio, just big enough to do full length shots of people.Time
It was an afternoon shoot on a Saturday, starting around 1.00pm and winding up around 4.00pmLighting
Lepa was lit with my Bowens Gemini 250 and 500 heads with softboxes and a strip light. I used a small round head to light the background to give good separation between it and Lepa. She was lit quite evenly to show as much tattoo detail as possible.Equipment
It was shot with a Canon 5D, using a 24-70mm f2.8 Zoom. Aperture: f/10, ISO: 100, Shutter Speed: 1/80, Focal Length: 57/1. The flashes were fired with a remote on the camera to avoid having a sync lead winding across the studio. I was shooting tethered to my my Mac G5, using Adobe Lightroom, so my composition and lighting were easy to check and control.Inspiration
I was introduced to Lepa by a tattooed girl that I used to work with. Lepa wanted implied nude images to show as much of her tattoo work as possible without being too explicit. The background is an old tarpaulin I salvaged from my brothers farm, and it worked well with Lepa's body tone. The material around her body is cotton interlock, the stuff you use to polish your car with.Editing
I did very little post processing, just a little toning, saturation and levels. Most of the work was done at the shooting stage. In my camera bag
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mk3. In my small camera bag I carry a 16-35mm f2.8, a 24-70mm f2.8 and a 70-200mm f2.8. I also use a 50mm f1.2, a 100mm macro and a 70-300mm f4.5 - 5.6. I also have two speed lights with an on camera remote. I try to keep a tripod with me as much as possible, along with an electric cable release, and a selection of ND filters for long exposure shots.Feedback
Try to use a background that works well with the models skin tone, and light them to give good colour and separation. The pose, although nude is quite demure, and the cloth drapes nicely around her body. She also looks very relaxed, which I think helps the shot. I used an aperture small enough to keep the background quite sharp to show the detail in it.
