Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in one of my unique lakes in the world, the Taal Lake of Batangas City in the Philippines.

Time

It took me some time to take this photo. I have to wait under the heat of the sun and wait for the perfect golden hour to arrive and the right subject to be in the frame. The sunlight turns everything it touches to gold.

Lighting

I want to achieve a silhouette image reflected in the water. So it's like a parallel universe.

Equipment

This was taken using a handheld Nikon D7000 and an 18-105mm lens.

Inspiration

I really love reflected shots, silhouette, and golden hour. Having all of this in one shot is once a blue moon opportunity. We just need a perfect subject to be in the right frame. Besides being serious in my craft, the photos I have taken during this trip were donated in my community who take care of the lake.

Editing

I do post-processing sometimes, especially on the landscape, but this one is an exception. I did minor edits like the contrast and saturation. The picture is almost perfect and no need to do heavy post-process.

In my camera bag

I usually bring a single camera body, which is my Nikon D7000, an 18-105mm kit lens, Nikon Speedlight, and Benro tripod. Basically, my gears take over my personal stuff. I just bring a backup replacement shirt and small towels.

Feedback

The Philippines has similar places like this, but this one is special. But no matter how beautiful the place is, if you have no patience, this shot would not come to reality. Aside from patience, you need a right spot, perfect angle, and hunger for framing and composition.
