Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo from my New York City apartment window, this was the first time I tried to take a photo of the moon.

Time

I was waiting all day for the moon, I knew that this particular day it was going to be full, so i setup my tripod facing east, and just waited. it camed over the buildings around 9:45PM. It was a bit cloudy at first, and i couldn’t figure out the right exposure so I must have taken about 25-30 images before the “right” one. This photo was taken Jan 23, 2016 at around 9:48PM.

Lighting

Lucky for me it cleared up, and I was able to take a shot of the moon alone, I tried to catch the planes going by, however, those shots all come out blurry

Equipment

It was shot on a Nikon D750, with a Sigma 150-600mm lens (f/6.3, 1/250. 600mm, ISO100)

Inspiration

I been intrigued by the light of the moon for a long time, and every now and then I would see it rising up from the east, I had the perfect view from my apartment window. I figure it would be a good practice to try out my new lens in something other than sports.

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikon D750 and my Nikon 35mm & 50mm primes as well as my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 never leave home without them.

Feedback

Patience, Patience, Patience... It took me a while to get the right shot, and since the moon is moving (faster than you think) you need to be able to change settings on a fly. I would recommend to start your settings at ISO100 and 1/100 and go up from there 1/250 worked for me, but you have a better lens like 4.0 or 2.8 your settings might be different.
