Location
This photo was taken on the west coast of Malta. It's a purpose-sunk wreck and has been in the water for around 3 years. It isn't the best wreck in Malta but great for photo opportunities as it's still very intact.Time
This was taken at around 9am - we start early in SCUBA diving and this was the first dive of the day. Luckily for us it was late in the season so we were the only divers on the wreck. I was the dive guide and you can see my two customers giving perspective to the size.Lighting
It can prove difficult to get the lighting right when diving due to visibility and "noise". I recommend using flash/strobes for macro and natural light for anything and everything else.Equipment
This was shot with an Olympus TG4 camera in it's purpose built waterproof housing.Inspiration
I have dived this wreck many times but this was the first time I was able to have divers "hanging" next to the bow to allow the size of the boat to have perspective. The sun was at the correct angle and we were the only 3 people there.Editing
I used Photoshop to enhance the colours but that's all. I like to keep my photos as natural as possible.In my camera bag
When I'm out of the water I use a Canon DSLR but when diving I have the Olympus TG4 in underwater housing for stills and a GoPro Hero 3+ for videosFeedback
Any and all diving gives a plethora of photo opportunities. The challenges are capturing the shot - fish have a tendency to swim away quicker than the blink of an eye. Ensure your bouyancy skills are good and be patient. Try and dive where the visibility is good and the currents aren't strong. Patience is definitely the key to underwater photography (same as all types of photography).
